Blog - Shining A Light On Accelerating Early 5G Success

At Spirent, we were especially proud to be recognized at the event by Light Reading for our role in guiding the industry forward in what continues to be a tricky 5G landscape.

Not even the blizzard that crashed this year’s Big 5G Event in Denver could cast a shadow over 5G’s red hot glow. Infrastructure vendors showing off their new wares, operators beaming about early successes and just about every top stakeholder in the mix sharing insights about what comes next.

At Spirent, we were especially proud to be recognized at the event by Light Reading for our role in guiding the industry forward in what continues to be a tricky 5G landscape. For the second straight year, we’ve been named “Outstanding Test & Measurement Vendor” in the Light Reading Leading Lights award program. This one is special for us, especially given Light Reading’s reputation for independent analysis and how closely it has its finger on the pulse of 5G advancements and the many companies driving it.

In 2018, Spirent boldly announced that it was ready to shed its lab-only reputation and go all-in on a strategy that would take our work out into the network and beyond as our customers faced their biggest challenges yet. Success meant forging the right partnerships and investing in crucial 5G testbeds. It meant harnessing all of our insights to simplify a journey that was becoming ever-complex. It meant doing the real work to accelerate 5G deployments.

All told, Spirent today counts more than forty 5G customers, spanning tier-one service providers, all major network equipment manufacturers, and the largest 5G semiconductor and device manufacturers.

All told, Spirent today counts more than forty 5G customers, spanning tier-one service providers, all major network equipment manufacturers, and the largest 5G semiconductor and device manufacturers. Yes, we are noted as leaders for our product breadth, key features like standalone 5G core network emulation and proven benefits like a more than 70 percent reduction in test times. But time and again, we hear from customers that we win business because we are able to serve as “trusted advisors’ that are helping to successfully navigate the important early stages of 5G, where fierce competition leaves little room for error.

A Snapshot Of 5G Leadership

“Spirent can be very proud of its achievements – it is pushing the boundaries of the industry and setting a great example for what is possible in an unprecedented era of communications technology evolution” - -Light Reading editor-in-chief, Ray Le Maistre.

From our work with National Instruments to streamline 5G device testing to partnerships with government-funded 5G Innovation Centers like the University of Surrey in the UK, where we are prepping facilities for high-volume 5G testing, we are determined to clear the path ahead for success. In China, our work with the IMT-2020 5G Group has already resulted in expedited 5G deployments.

We are pleased that our efforts to propel the industry forward has equaled success for our business as well. Our 2018 full-year results indicated a 34% increase in profitability, a 44% increase in EPS and a 10% increase to our dividend, driven in part by our early success in 5G.

This is truly just the beginning but we are encouraged by how well we have positioned to help so many stakeholders begin to capitalize on the opportunities before them. In the year ahead, we are focused on maintaining and extending our 5G leadership and that of our customers. There are more boundaries to push and new horizons to explore.

Stay tuned to my 5G blog series where I’ll continue to share the bleeding edge service assurance and cybersecurity work Spirent is doing in some of 5G’s most promising early industries, like automotive C-V2X and Industry 4.0.
